The single biggest driver of an accurate quote is knowing the actual space the piece has to fit into. Rough dimensions of the rise and run, the width available, and what the piece attaches to at each end all matter. So does anything already in the way: a doorway that swings into the space, ductwork overhead, a column, a landing that is not quite level. None of that has to be measured perfectly before you call, but the more of it you can describe, the closer the first number will land.

Drawings Help, Even Rough Ones

An architect's plan set is ideal, but it is not required. A hand sketch with rough dimensions, or a few photos of the space from different angles, gives us enough to start. We design and draft in-house, so we can turn a rough sketch and a site visit into a working drawing ourselves rather than requiring a finished set of construction documents before we will talk numbers.

Tell Us the Finish, the Use, and the Timeline

Indoor or outdoor changes the metal recommendation immediately. Commercial foot traffic versus occasional residential use changes how the piece gets built. A preferred look, whether that is a clean stainless cable rail or a traditional wrought iron scroll pattern, narrows the design conversation fast. And a realistic sense of when you need it done lets us tell you honestly whether that is workable rather than guessing.

Whether the property is new construction or an existing building matters just as much. New construction gives us a chance to plan attachment points, like embeds set into concrete before it is poured, well ahead of time. An existing building usually means working around what is already there, an older stair opening, a storefront that was not built with a security grille in mind, a landing that was framed for a different rail height than code calls for today. Neither situation is a problem, but knowing which one you are in changes how we approach the site visit.
